Training for managers additionally includes sections which cover and explore models for managing neurodivergent social workers, a model of supervision when managing neurodivergent social workers and introduce reasonable adjustment passports. We also explore access to work and how organisations can support employees in the application process.
Training for front line social workers additionally includes an exploration of ‘spoon theory’ to help neurodivergent social workers and their colleagues understand the difficulty of working in a neurotypical system and society; tips on how to overcome some of the challenges in practice; and self-care advise. I additionally explore how neurotypical colleagues can become active allies.
Within this package I offer an insight into some of the barriers and challenges I faced on my placement and with my PE – exploring the impact this had on my wellbeing, education and student experience.
This training package additionally offers and exploration on why we need to know about neurodivergence when supporting children and families. It provides ‘red flags’ to look out for in practice (especially when considering intersectionality) and ideas on the different ways we can work with neurodivergent young people and their care givers. It concludes by providing tips and tricks on how neurodivergent students can support themselves in practice.
